Globe 3d
A turning globe: the camera swings to each country in turn and a spike rises to its value, with a scoreboard below that keeps every figure on screen.
How to read it
Spike length is the value; the scoreboard under the globe lists every country in rank order with its exact figure.
Best for
A ranking of up to eight countries where where they are is part of the story.
When not to use it
The rows are not places, or the leaders are close neighbours whose spikes stand in each other's way.
The common mistake
Reading spikes on the far side of the globe — they are foreshortened; trust the scoreboard.
