Leaderboard

An auto-scrolling countdown through a long ranked list.

How to read it

A long ranked list scrolls past, each row with a bar on one shared scale, and the number one entry is held back until the end. The rank number is the point, and entries next to each other are often nearly tied.

Best for

Rankings too long for one screen — 100 cities, 100 cars — built to be watched to the end.

When not to use it

The list is short enough to fit on one screen, where ranked bars are better in every way.

The common mistake

Ranking on a measure with a wide margin of error, which makes most of the order noise.
