What the numbers show

As of May 2026, Real Madrid have won the European Cup, now called the Champions League, 15 times. No other club has more than 7. AC Milan are second with 7. Bayern Munich and Liverpool have 6 each, Barcelona have 5 and Ajax have 4.

Real Madrid won the first five editions, between 1956 and 1960, and their sixth in 1966. The chart starts there, in 1966, and adds up each club's wins so far, year by year on the website and every five years in the video. The other clubs arrive one by one. Milan has 7 by 2011, when Barcelona has 4. By 2021, Liverpool and Bayern Munich have 6 each, Barcelona 5 and Ajax 4.

Real Madrid's 15 is more than AC Milan's 7 and Bayern Munich's 6 added together, which is 13. Opta Analyst, the data arm of Stats Perform, described the gap as some eight more than any other team. Real Madrid are first on every frame of the chart, from 1966 to 2026.

The counts come from UEFA's own list of winners, which puts the old European Cup and the Champions League in one table. A club's total therefore includes both. The chart reads that table at the end of each fifth year, from 1966 to 2021, and then at the 2026 final.

The most recent final, in May 2026, was won by Paris Saint-Germain. They beat Arsenal 4-3 on penalties after a 1-1 draw. It was their second title, after 2025, so they have 2 and do not appear in the chart.

Only the six clubs with 4 or more titles are shown. Inter Milan and Manchester United, with 3 each, are left out, and so is any club with fewer. A club's column starts when it wins its first title. This is a record of finals already played, and it will change after the next final, so every number is dated May 2026.
